Juniors Teams

St Mary’s/Park Amateurs

St Mary’s began as an U17 team back in the 1940’s. St Mary’s/Park Amateurs have consistently made attempts to promote their junior teams.

In the 1980’s, Park started  with junior teams at  under 13, under15 and under 17 level.

Park under 17’s coached by Alan Sheard reached the final of the West Riding U17 Cup competition beating Ovenden U17’s in the semi-final by 20-1. They were triumphant against Moldgreen (Huddersfield) in the final. George Parkinson won the Man of the Match award.

Park fielded teams at under 19, under 17, under 15 and under 13 level for many years in the West Riding Junior Rugby League during the 1980’s. In 1982-83, the U19’s finished 8th and the U15’s 10th in their competitions.

The following season, 1983-4, Park fielded under 17’s, who finished 4th and under 13’s who won their league. Disappointingly neither team made it to the cup finals that season. The under 13’s, however,  reached final of West Riding Supplementary Cup in 1985 losing 24-30 to Dudley Hill and then went on to win the Halifax U13  cup with 18-10 victory versus Siddal,

In 1985-6, Park were able to field three junior sides. The under 17’s finished  5th, the under 15’s  4th and the under 13’s 9th. The under 15’s went even better in the following (1986-7) season when they finished first in their league. The under 17’s continued with a 10th place finish.

As the eighties came to a close, Park were fielding under 16’s and under 18’s. John Dunne recalls having to

“drag the juniors out of bed on a Sunday morning to go to games.”

King Cross Park Juniors

In 2007, the merger of Park Amateurs with King Cross Juniors was affected and the new combined club, King Cross Park, began life.

In 2022, the King Cross Park Juniors were out at Scammonden Dam Steps to raise some much-needed funding. The Halifax Courier reported the event.

One of the parents, Gemma Szefer, said: “The weather was crazy, it rained, then it was sunny and then very windy! The kids enjoyed it, the parents not so much. The kids have asked to do it again as part of their rugby training.

“We’ve raised £960 on the Go Fund Me page and most kids have also got cash donations, which are yet to be counted, but we expect it to around £1,100.”

It was also reported that all the kids and all the adults celebrated with a cake afterwards!

For the 2025 season, King Cross Park are fielding junior teams at the following levels.

U 13, U18 boys,

U 13 girls,

U6, U7, U8, U9, U11, U10,
