Andrew “Charlie” Charlesworth
No history of the Terriers would be complete without mention of the role of Andrew Charlesworth, know to one and all as “Charlie”
As a member of “C” Company, Charlie was a Rugby League fan. And it was just the appearance of a rugby ball at a training camp which started a game and led to Charlie’s conversation with Jai Taylor about setting up a team which started the Terriers story.
Charlie was a founder of the club and still is driving force behind the Terriers. He played, coached for nearly 20 years. He was top try scorer with 12 and 11 tries in the clubs first seasons. Charlie played well over 300 open age games, all for the Terriers.
He has served not only as player and coach but also as Chairman, secretary, team manager and led a team of volunteers and committee members who have built a club from the foundations upwards. When things needed fixing he is also a dab hand with a hammer and a 6” nail!
It is a credit of the Terriers that Charlie’s hard work and commitment has been recognised over the years. Charlie has received the Clubman of the Year Award on numerous occasions, He was also recognised by both the Pennine League and the Halifax & District League.
It was a true magic moment when in 2006 when Charlie took the field for the Terriers with sons, Graham and Luke.

When he called time on his open age career, Charlie even took up refereeing in the Pennine League.
In more recent years, Charlie was instrumental in the formation of the Boothtown Masters Rugby League team and continues to play for the Masters team. And of course, Charlie has taken up the Masters whistle mixing up playing and refereeing Masters.
Teammate, Nev Graham perfectly states Charlie’s significance to the club,
“but all the work Charlie has done over the years has made sure that the club survives. “
Charlie continues to drive the Boothtown Terriers club forward.
“Without Charlie and all his hard work and organising, none of us would still be playing Rugby League” He has done everything here.”
was the way fellow Boothtown Master summed up Charlie’s contribution to Boothtown Terriers and local Rugby League.
