He scored a try in a 1960’s Final at Thurm Hall as a winger and moved closer to the action the older he got.

Barry was soon very active off the pitch, organising and working tirelessly for the All Rounders. When he retired from playing he took up coaching Greenland’s’ “A” team and even brought club favourite Gary Ellis to the club.

Barry’s efforts off the pitch were recognised twice by the Pennine League as he was awarded the Pennine League Clubman of the Year Award for Division 5 in 1980 and won another Clubman Award, this time for Pennine Division 3 in 1985.

Former club captain, Dave Rawnsley,  just remembers Barry being everywhere at the club. Barry was his first coach at the All Rounders and gave him his first game.

Barry was always looking for ways to improve and advance the club from applying for grants to the ambitious application to join the National Conference League in the 1990’s. He was successful as Greetland All Rounders were elected to the NCL. He was also instrumental in bringing Maurice Bamford – and his group of Australians – to the club during their stay in the NCL.

In 2018, Barry was President of the club he was able to celebrate a £50,000 funding boost from the SUEZ Communities Trust. The funds enabled the club to refurbish and re-roof their changing facilities originally built by club members in the early 1980’s.

Barry Dyson led the project and explained at the time that it was  “a great boost for our club. We are enjoying a growth in membership and our aim is to always improve and provide good facilities for all ages, both males and females at adult and junior levels.”

Later in 2018, the clubhouse’s heating boiler failed its last service inspection and the club needed heating. A small Community grant of £2000 from Calderdale Council to replace it was approved.

Barry Dyson commented at the time “Receiving the grant from the Council to replace our heating boiler was very welcome indeed.

As the All Rounders started their Hall of Fame it was only fitting that Barry should be one of the first to be honoured with a place on the list.

Barry was on the club committee club President and did almost every job possible during his decades at the club. Unfortunately, Barry health issues meant he has had to leave his beloved Greetland in the hands of others.

His name and his legacy will continue be heard and seen at the Spring Rock ground for ever.
