The Final Chapter

The club sadly was disbanded in the mid 1960’s only a couple of years after their glory years of Halifax Cup victories. Mick Stafford recalls the

“separation of the Open Age and the junior players” and the fact that “we (the U19’) were always looking for players”

The big issue for the club was the loss of their playing field. This was apparently a council pitch but under the control of the local school. There were claims that playing Rugby League on the field had damaged the site drainage. This was despite the fact that the Mytholmroyd Gala was held there every summer with lorries driving over the area!

Without an alternative pitch, the club had little option but to call it a day in 1967.

The final Hebden Bridge team split up with most players going across Halifax to St Mary’s and some lost to Rugby League.
