Juniors
Illingworth founded a junior U17 team in the 1962-3 season including players such as Peter Clayton who was to play for the club over many seasons. They played in the Halifax U17 Cup Final in that year against St Malachy’s in a competition comprising only three teams. The other was Halifax Supporters U17. By the 1964 season, Illingworth were also fielding not only an U17 team but also an U19 team.
Illingworth continued their junior development although they were not in action every season.
The U 16 finished 3rd in the Pennine League, above local rivals Greetland and Ovenden, in the 1974-75 season. The following two season as the U18 team, they finished a creditable 6th and 12th in the Pennine U18 league.
After an apparent gap, Illingworth field an U17 side for the 1983-84 season in the Bradford and Keighley Youth Amateur Rugby League finishing 6th in a strong competition also played by Brighouse, Siddal, Elland and Park Amateurs. Throughout the decade honours continued to be out of their reach.
This time in the West Riding Youth League, Illingworth fielded an U12 team in 1991-92 and finished the season in 6th place with their U10 side finishing 13th in a strong competition including seven Halifax teams in total.
In 1996-97 the Under 18’s won the West Riding League and Cup double, as well as the Halifax Cup. Four players from this side joined the professional ranks, Ben Thompson, Gary Hilton, Stuart Fielden and his brother Jamie. Not surprisingly Stuart Fielden was names “Most Promising Young Player” at the end of seasons award ceremony! The same season the U16 finished 3rd in the West Riding Youth League. the U14 finished 9th and the U12 6th.
The Illingworth club U16 lads made a successful, short tour to France in 1996 and were pleased to welcome the French lads back to Masons Green the following year.
By 2019 the club was fielding junior teams at several levels including U7’s, U8’s, U9’s and U10’s as well as U16’s. Games were played with teams over a fairly large area. They travelled to Odsal Sedburgh, East Leeds, Hemsworth and Thornhill (Dewsbury).
