“A” Team

As the Halifax Irish first team became increasingly successful, there was an influx of players which led to the decision to form an “A” team for the 2001-02 season. The playing roster was a mixture of new and experienced players and joined the Pennine League. Not every season had Halifax Irish “A” team in the Pennine League as player numbers fluctuated. In the difficult year for the club, 2004-05, there was no “A” team as even the first team struggled.

black and white scan of Cup Final ProgrammeThe high point for the “A” was the Supplementary Cup Final of 2006-07 . This was Halifax Irish “A” team’s first appearance in a final and they were up against Pennine Division 5 rivals the formidable Siddal ”B” whose players had played in many Finals. Siddal “B” overwhelmed  Halifax Irish “A” with a 42-4 victory. For the record Aaron Brown scored Irish’s single try. (Yes, the programme has the wrong year!)

The “A” Team continued supporting the first team continually bringing in new players to the game until it folded in 2014.
