Earlier Teams in Hebden Bridge

As Rugby became popular in the area, there were early teams using the Hebden Bridge moniker as well as a team in Heptonstall in the 1880’s and 1890’s. Some played not in the town but down the valley in Mytholmroyd.

The longest lasting  of the early teams was a team at Calder Holme from 1879 to 1907. The team played in the then Northern Union Challenge Cup five times between 1899-1906.. They won only one game 8-0 against Whitworth in May 1901 and then bowing out in the next round by 33-3 against Broughton Rangers.

There was also Hebden Bridge team starting in 1910 lasting until 1914 at Neil Carr, up the hill in Wadsworth.
