Epilogue
Some 16 years later, some former players including John Cockroft decided to revive the Todmorden ARLFC. So, in 2020 Todmorden had a Rugby League again. The team played at Woodhouse and a number of rugby union players from Rochdale and Littleborough but at times struggled to put out a full team.
They played in the Yorkshire Men’s League Division 5 West finishing a creditable 5th winning 8 of their 14 games in the 2021 season.
The season began on 24th April with a trip to Skipton to play the Knights. It was not the dream return but the team took a lot of positives as they went down 34-20. However, Todmorden ARLFC did get their first win in 18 years when they overcame Illingworth at their ground by 32-30.
The following year, 2022, they were in Division 5 and finished 7th with only 2 victories from their 13 games. And they travelled some miles to fulfil their fixtures. Goole Vikings, Derby Elks, Seacroft Sharks and Sherwood Wolf Hunt.
2023 started with a friendly against Rochdale Hornets community side. The season had the team in the YML Division 4b where they played 13 games winning 5 of them. They finished in 5th place in a division containing Brighouse Rangers, Keighley Albion “A”, Birkenshaw Bluedogs and West Craven Warriors.
By the end of 2023, the club accepted it had been a difficult year with injuries and cancelled games. However, there was a desire to regroup for 2024 with new committee members and a focus on fund raising, social events and game day food. The club kept their profile high as they had done since 2020 through their continued, outstanding social media and they made several callouts for players. However, it was finally decided the club could not continue and a letter was sent out and published marking the end of Rugby League in Todmorden. At least, for the present!
