Ovenden Sports and Community Arena (OSCA) Foundation

In 2009, Ovenden Sports and Community Arena (OSCA) was formed a non-profit making company to promote sport and community in the area. Ovenden ARLFC joined Ovenden West Riding AFC in this venture which three years later in 2012 took over the playing area at Four Fields and the Forest Cottage building as a community asset transfer from Calderdale Council on a 42-year lease. In the next few years, OSCA secured over £500,000 of grants to develop the playing areas and improve the changing facilities at Forest Cottage. In 2020, the OSCA Foundation, on behalf of the Ovenden ARLFC, was awarded £55,000 from the Rugby League World Cup 2021’s CreatedBy grants programme.

The results of the investment by OSCA over a decade in the playing areas and the facilities at Forest Cottage were vastly improved playing surfaces for both the football and rugby league pitches together with other outdoor floodlit areas and finally a completely new suite of state-of-the-art changing rooms, somewhat ironically in a building extension from the original stable changing rooms used by Ovenden Rugby League players decades before. The Forest Cottage Pavilion with its social areas and bar has also been revamped and modernised.
