Post War Revival

In the post Second World War years, a number of former Luddendenfoot and Calder Valley players were attracted back to playing for Luddenden.

The reformed club was started in 1946 by local lad John “Jack” Cox, who played at Bradford Northern, Leeds and Halifax. Indeed, he won the Challenge Cup with at Wembley with both Halifax and Leeds, retiring from the professional game in 1941. Sadly, John died in 1948 at the early age of 40 and did not live to see the success of the club over the following years. After his death, a benefit game was played between Luddenden and a Halifax XIII drawn from the amateur teams in Halifax including players from Siddal, Pellon, Queensbury Ovenden and ACC.

The Luddenden Rugby League Club was back in action and joined the Halifax and District Rugby League. They also ran an Under-18 team who were good enough to reach the Halifax Cup Final at Thrum Hall that season, eventually losing out to Siddal U18’s following a replay.
