The Halifax and District Supplementary Cup was a competition for new clubs and for those teams below a club’s first team.
Siddal A Supplementary Cup Winners 1989 v Park Amateurs A
It began in in 1980-81 and by 1989 at the peak of Rugby League interest in Halifax, it gained sponsorship. Initially this was from Whiteleys Insurance Supplementary Cup for over a decade and then from Hartwell Ford. In 2006, the trophy was sponsored by James Chambers and Garrard’s.
Following the death of long serving Halifax and District Rugby League Treasurer, Joe Blackford, in 2008 the trophy was renamed in his memory.
The Finals were usually at Thrum Hall until 1999.
